On December 21, 2023, an important step was taken for the recovery of the European sturgeon (Acipenser sturio) in Catalonia and the Mediterranean area, with the release of 44 sturgeon specimens in the Ebro River, specifically on the fluvial beach of Tivenys.
LIFE MIGRATOEBRE project has received the transfer of 45 sturgeons born in captivity, thanks to the collaboration of the French government, the New Aquitaine region, the MIGADO association and the Institut national de Recherche en Sciences et Technologies pour l’ Environment and Agriculture (IRSTEA).
The sturgeons arrived on December 4 at the facilities of the IRTA aquaculture center in La R\u00e0pita, where they have acclimatized until the day of release and where they have also been implanted with ultrasounds emitters for subsequent follow-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A STURGEON?:
If a sturgeon, a protected species, is caught or found, at least a photograph will be taken, the date, place of capture and specimen code (if it has an external tag) will be recorded, and it will be returned to the water at the capture point as soon as possible. If it is dead, it will be kept in a refrigerated place until further notice. 112 will be called to report this and all possible information will be sent to the email bustia_idece@gencat.cat.
